Singing Bird in Silver Cage

Silver bird cage with two singing birds. The clockwork mechanism causing the feathered birds to sing melodiously to each other. With movements of each bird in turn as they sing their individual phrases of song. They move their beaks, tails, heads and turn on their perches as they. The finial boss and lower cage are made of  ‘capodimonte’ porcelain, the lower frieze showing a bacchanalian scene of disrobed dancers and musician. The porcelain is fired onto the metal surface using a rare and special technique.

This is a luxury model from the Reuge workshop.

Made by Reuge in Switzerland who are famous for their fine Music Boxes and their high quality mechanical singing birds, the traditional clockwork and leather bellows power a complex mechanism to produce the song and move the birds with perfect timing and clear birdsong.

Reuge have a justly proud reputation for high quality and this example is in excellent condition with a yellow and red  feathered bird and green foliage.  The intermittent function allows the bird to pause briefly at the end of each phrase of the song.
