Reuge Singing Bird Cage
Gilded bird cage with singing bird. The clockwork mechanism causing the feathered bird to sing melodiously.
Made by Reuge in Switzerland who are famous for their fine Music Boxes, the traditional clockwork and leather bellows power a complex mechanism to produce the song and move the bird with perfect timing and clear birdsong.
Reuge have a justly proud reputation for high quality and this example is in excellent condition with slight fading to the red, yellow and black feathered bird and some light foxing on the original gilded finish visible on close inspection, the gilded cage also has one small dent (2mm) which is not easy to see, but is there. The bird moves from side to side, wags its tail, turns its head to and fro and opens its beak in time to the song. The perch is clad in the original delicate miniature fabric leaves and flowers. The song is crisp and clear and the movements are perfect. The intermittent function allows the bird to pause realistically at the end of each phrase of the song.
Height 30cm. Suitable for shelf or hanging by the gilded ring.
