Magician

A key wound clockwork Automaton Magician. Dating from the 1890’s and probably made in Germany by Adolf Muller.
When operated the magician taps his wand, looks down and lifts the cup on the table revealing an object. When the action repeats a different object is revealed.

Unusually for this period the automaton is in original condition.The clothes, hair, paint, table cloth and carpet covering the base are original. Fading to the table cloth is evident by the bright purple colour of the part covered by the cup. The Magician performs without music and may have been part of a magic act or store display.

This automaton was sourced for a London based magic collector from Cazenove in Paris twenty years ago and we are now selling on behalf of that client.
