“Huntsman Smoker” Automaton by Roullet & Decamps, c. 188o – RESERVED

An rare opportunity to acquire the Roullet & Decamps version of this iconic subject. Measuring 75cm tall with a fine papier mache character head. Moving eyelids, mouth, head turn and nod, movement of both arms.

The automaton smokes using a clockwork mechanism and real cigarettes.

Restored by The House of Automata this figure retains the original clothes and paint. The smoking action is strong exhaling long plumes of smoke.

The last photograph shows the automaton before restoration and next to the same subject by Vichy of Paris.
