Boy on A Donkey
Automaton of a Boy riding a Donkey & carrying a ball. Roullet & Decamps, Paris, circa 1890.
A musical clockwork automaton in exceptional original condition. The silk clothes are distressed but display the superb fit and tailoring that makes this automaton of museum quality. The ball within the net is of celluloid now distorted but entirely original. Roullet & Decamps have maximised the movement of this automaton by incorporating a pendulum nodding action to the Donkeys head. This is operated by the boy lifting and lowering the reins. The whole tableau set between a wooden fence on a painted worn path.
