A clockwork automaton smoker by Gustave Vichy of Paris. Dating from 1870 the automaton is now over 140 years old and in fine health.
The Vichy company was founded in 1862 and is arguably considered the finest of the Parisian Automaton Makers.
The papier mache figure has his original clothes and functions perfectly for the duration of a small cigar or cigarette. Movements of the head, eyelids and arms as well as the smoking action achieved by internal bellows powered by the clockwork.
