Clockwork Singing Bird in a Gilded Cage
Mechanical singing bird by Bontems of Paris. Circa 1880.
The bird sings using a complex clockwork motor with a three chambered bellows. The maker Bontems was famous for the beauty of his birdsong. The bird is feathered in real bird feathers to replicate a small red Tanager. The mechanism has been restored to excellent condition, the gilded wooden cage has signs of wear commensurate with age but retains a romantic antique look. Dimensions 27cm high, 18cm wide, 14cm deep
