Smoking Head c.1865
A rare head with moving eyes and smoking action via the bellows and clockwork motor, the head came in its original packing case with pipes, cigar holder, saltpetre and ‘Ribbon of Bruge’, there was also a letter dated 1882 detailing its sale and operating instructions. In addition to the five photos shown here there is a film of it on YouTube at: Smoking Head.
The last two photos are scans of the handwritten letter dated 1882 that came with the head.
The head next to its original box. The pipe and cigar holder are visible above the head.
The mechanism for the eyes on the left is operated by a rod on the movement in the right hand section.
