The clockwork mechanism has been overhauled and serviced, the tune played is delightful and suits the rabbits actions perfectly, there is a slight damper noise on some of the notes, but it is not enough to intrude on the performance. the real fur covered rabbit has been cleaned. The original leaves show sign of wear and slight staining in keeping with the 130 years since it was made in the Marais district of Paris. The R&D catalogue entry shown in the gallery dates from 1911.

This musical clockwork automaton rabbit rises from the papier mache cabbage, leans over, chews franticly and raises his ears. The rabbit then suddenly disappears back into the cabbage as if startled. Strangely amusing and instantly popular with all who see it. Original leaves and distinctive original R&D key.
